SHAPE PROJECTS

hours drive from Addis Ababa, but has only recently had a road that
is usable all year and lacks many basic services. It is classified
as a UN food insecure area, which means that food aid may be needed
if the harvest is poor. Last year the harvest was
poor.
Our implementing partners in Ethiopia are SUNARMA, a registered
Ethiopian environmental non-governmental organisation, and the
local government's Health and Education departments.
SHAPE is providing clean water and equipment to health facilities
and schools.

Our "Project Bednet" is being implemented by trustee Dr Neil
Fletcher in the twelve villages in the Anglican Parish of Busamaga,
30 km East of Mbale.
SHAPE has funded medicines, local transport costs and almost 1000
mosquito bednets - enough to protect every young child and pregnant
woman within the community. This June, working with a local nurse
and a team organised by the community, he will run a clinic in each
village, distribute the bed nets and give a high dose of vitamin A
to all children under 5.
Neil says " This project alone should save the lives of over
400 children and mothers-to-be over the next five years, and will
continue to save significant numbers of young lives over the next
decade. I will be accompanied by new SHAPE team member, teacher
Jenny Cole from Cam in Gloucestershire, who hopes to establish
links between Gloucestershire and Busamaga schools."
