Harvest Time

Reaping the crop Harvest time in the highlands The crop grown since the rains is being harvested. Reaping is done by hand using sickles - it is too stony for scythes.

The crop is stack and threshed - trampling by the animals.

(There are more pictures of people and the land amongst those we took whilst we were trekking)

Threshing Ploughing Preparing the land for sowing, ploughed using oxen.

This was preparation for the short rains in early 2008, which were poor. Animals need food in hard times too - without the oxen the land cannot be prepared and sown for the next rains.
