SHAPE Africa

In Africa many people die from diseases that are simply, easily and cheaply preventable or treatable: malaria, diarrhoea, respiratory infections and malnutrition.

In Ethiopia 1 child in 8 dies before its 5th birthday; the lifetime risk of a mother dying in childbirth is 1 in 14.

In the Ethiopian highlands we are working with a local charity and government staff to help rural people get better access to: Clean Water, Health Education, Medicines, Vaccination, and Family Planning - things that we in the UK take for granted.

In areas of Africa with Malaria the use of mosquito bed-nets and administration of high-dose vitamin A can halve the death rate of children under 5.

In June 2010 SHAPE trustee Dr Neil Fletcher went to eastern Uganda with drugs and almost 1000 mosquito nets provided by SHAPE.

Neil is just back from Uganda - click here for the daily updates sent during the trip !
